Local resident and hobby drone pilot, Ethan Clarke, was testing his new high-resolution drone over Cedar Lake. He posted nature videos online and often captured wildlife and sunset shots — never imagining he was about to solve a case that had tormented eight families for half a decade.

As the drone hovered over a remote, heavily tree-covered cove long believed too shallow for boat access, Ethan noticed something odd beneath the water’s glassy surface — a long, metallic shadow, almost perfectly rectangular. He zoomed in.
