Three Siblings Vanished at Sea, and 12 Years Later Their Father Finally Discovered the Truth…In the summer of 2009, the small town of Rockport, Maine, was buzzing with its usual coastal rhythm—fishermen hauling lobster traps, tourists taking photos of the lighthouses, and locals preparing their boats for short trips along the Atlantic. Among them were the Harrison siblings: Daniel, the eldest at 23; Rebecca, 21; and Luke, just 18. Their father, Thomas Harrison, was a widower and former Navy officer who had taught his children everything about seamanship.

On June 11th, the siblings decided to take their father’s refurbished 32-foot sailboat, The Marlin, on what they described as a “short celebratory trip” before Rebecca left for graduate school in Boston. It was meant to be a day out on the open water—just the three of them, bonding, enjoying the wind and sea spray. They packed light: a cooler with sandwiches, a few bottles of water, and Rebecca’s camera.

Thomas remembered standing on the dock that morning. Daniel, confident and tall, adjusted the sails while Luke jokingly shouted he would be “Captain” for the day. Rebecca, with her camera slung over her shoulder, promised to bring back photos of the horizon at sunset.

But The Marlin never returned.

That evening, when the boat failed to dock, Thomas contacted the Coast Guard. Within hours, search helicopters scanned the shoreline, rescue boats combed the waters, and neighboring harbors were alerted. Days turned into weeks. Investigators found no wreckage, no signs of distress signals, no life vests washed ashore. It was as if the Harrison siblings had disappeared into the ocean.

Authorities suggested possibilities—unexpected storm, navigational error, even piracy though rare in those waters. Yet none of the theories matched the calm weather reports of that day. With no evidence, the case went cold, leaving Thomas devastated, clinging to fading hope that one day he would know what happened to his children. The Clues Resurface . .

Thomas had never been to Europe. He didn’t tell anyone in Rockport he was leaving—there was no one left to tell. He packed a single duffel bag, copies of the recovered photos, and the SD card in a waterproof case he kept in his pocket like a relic.

Two days later, he landed in Oslo, then boarded a small regional flight to Tromsø. From there, he hired a local guide—a quiet man named Leif Sørensen, who owned a weather-beaten boat and knew the northern coast better than most.

When Thomas showed him the photo of the ship and mentioned Coldfathom Industries, Leif’s expression briefly changed. Not with recognition—but discomfort.

“This place you’re asking about,” Leif said in low English as they sailed through icy waters, “locals call it Skardhavn. That fjord was leased by private companies for ‘research.’ Never saw researchers go in—just cargo ships with blacked-out windows.”

“How far is it?” Thomas asked.

“Four hours by boat. Maybe five if the fog rolls in.”

It was already snowing lightly—unusual for early autumn—but Thomas didn’t care. He stood at the bow the entire ride, clutching the railing as the coastline disappeared behind them.
